Début

It was drafted, it was redrafted, it was delayed, it was debugged: and, lo!  It débuts.  (A thousand thanks to David Stevens, Michael Kaulkin, and their elves for their wizardly assistance.)  Though today is the first day this site is live, I’ve been keeping this journal (in previews, if you will) since July 21rst: it will center on new (and new-feeling) music-drama (and dramatic music)—with some judicious digressions.  If you’d like a sense of the tone, you can read a bit here of the last rehearsals and first performance of Little Women in the Holy Land, and, during that same week, some personal responses to Petra, and to Jerusalem; a salute to, and a tale of, stately Carlisle Floyd; two “of course: and yet…” responses to Nico Muhly and to Barry Singer in Opera News; and a coronation of Monteverdi, courtesy of Opera Omnia at Le Poisson Rouge. (And a judicious digression.) Thanks for looking in: I’ll be posting at least twice a week starting the Tuesday after Labor Day.
